Abstract :
Characteristics of a 10.4 MeV, 2.4 kA intense electron beam from the 10 MeV linear induction accelerator focused by solenoid lenses are studied. The experimental magnetic region is acquired through resolving the five-order radial electric trajectory equation. Limits to minimum spot size, imposing by the space-charge effect, emittance and corkscrew motion of electron beams, and the spherical and chromatic aberrations of the lens are investigated by means of an analytical method. Experimentally, a spot diameter of less than or equal to 6 mm is obtained. The experimental results are in agreement with the theory computations.
