Abstract :
It was investigated the method of high power microwave pulse duration control based on moderate modulation (15 – 20%) of accelerating voltage and electron beam current. Experiments carried out at the two-channel accelerator “ZET” (U = 2 − 3 MV, I= 15 − 20 kA, τ= 100 − 500 ns). The electron gun were connected to one Marx generator via high-voltage transmission lines with sharpening SF6 filled dischargers and ballast resistors. The electron beam modulation was provided of the second channel switch-on moment by using the dischargers. It was achieved stable pulse duration control in the range from 10 to 70 ns. This method was used for a set of experiments on interaction of plasma with high power microwave radiation (1.5 Gw, 10 GHz).
