Abstract :
A version of Peniotoron experiment using an IREB has been studied at JAERI, to see if its concept still works and the high conversion efficiency is preserved with relativistic and intense electron beam. A hollow rotating electron beam (0.9MV,400A and 100ns) was injected into a cylindrical cavity immersed in a 3kG static field to cause an interaction of the beam and TE211 mode of the cavity. Several kinds of intense microwave bursts were found in the frequency rclI1ge of 2–5GHz. Some of them could be due to CARM, while the identification of peniotron radiation was less credible. Generation of the hollow rotating beam and analyses of the radiation process are presented.
