Abstract :
In this paper we investigate a one degree-of-freedom friction oscillator that can exhibit chaotic behaviour. Moreover, this mechanical system also shows the peculiarities of transient chaos at certain parameters. We use known numerical techniques to unfold and visualize these phenomena and to calculate one of the most important measure of chaos and transient chaos, the Lyapunov exponent.
