Abstract
This paper presents a numerical simulation of a log-periodic antenna on an extended hemispherical lens. The overall performance of the antenna in terms of input impedance, radiation patterns, and radiation efficiency was studied and analyzed with the aid of a full-wave electromagnetic simulator. A hybrid method combining geometrical optics inside the lens and physical optics outside the lens was not necessary for calculating the far-field pattern of the antenna using this approach. This direct approach reduced the number of simulation iterations and was capable of characterizing the antenna characteristics accurately.
