Abstract :
Content-Centric Networking (CCN) is a new paradigm, which aims at rethinking the network architecture with a fundamental shift from host-centric to content-centric communication model. Although CCN provides a good fit to the massive amount of static content, it has limited consideration for the effects on the real-time traffic such as live streaming, e-commerce transactions or online-gaming. We argue that the current CCN incurs a long delay when delivering real-time traffic, leading to a poor user experience. In this paper, we propose an efficient real-time traffic support scheme in CCN, where the traffic is classified into real-time and non-real-time traffic. A new mode, called one-request-n-packets, is introduced to support real-time traffic in order to reduce the massive repeated request messages, which is also compatible with the original mode. Moreover, cache at the intermediate routers is modified not to store the chunks of real-time traffic since these data are not worthy for caching. The proposed scheme is evaluated on a test-bed experiment by modifying the open source CCNx prototype. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme has a good support for real-time traffic in CCN.
