Abstract
This paper presents an optimal cooling approach to minimize the power consumption of computer room air conditioners in data centers. A temperature control experiment was conducted in a simulated data center. Based on the experimental data, temperature and power consumption models are introduced to formulate an optimization problem. The resulting coordinated control led to a power consumption reduction. The simulation results indicate that the proposed optimization approach resulted in 6% to 14% less power consumption than that of a baseline control.
