Abstract :
The brightness temperatures TBs measured by Aqua AMSR-E and Meteor-M N 1 MTVZA-GY microwave radiometers as well as the total atmospheric water vapor content, total cloud liquid water content and sea surface wind speed retrieved from the TBs are used to study the structure and evolution of severe marine weather systems and to improve temporal resolution required for their satellite monitoring. The microwave data are compared with visible and infrared images and with in situ observations. The microwave signatures of tropical and polar hurricanes are compared to get more accurate data on the emissivity of the surface at gale winds.
