Abstract :
In India, the conditions for mapping with high and very high resolution images are improved over the last few years. Cartosat-2 imagery of 1m resolution has the potential to be used for topographic map compilation and 2.5m stereo imagery of Cartosat-1 could be employed for DEM generation and for mapping in remote, non-urban and non-agricultural areas. Resourcesat-1 and Resourcesat-2 satellites with multi-spatial and multi-spectral capabilities in a single platform are suitable for agricultural and thematic applications. In the area of outer space exploration, the DEMs generated from Terrain mapping camera of Chandrayan-1 would enhance the existing knowledge of Lunar Topography and helps us to understand its evolution processes. Processing of these images provides a challenge for algorithmic redesign and opens the requirement to improve many photogrammetric processing components. This paper provides an overview on few of these challenges and senor-specific redesign methodologies adopted.
