Abstract
In this paper, we propose, one novel information theoretic method for target detection through foliage, using ultra wide-band (UWB) radars. This method is based on mutual information between subsequent radar return that makes use of the fact, that there is more random phenomenon in the targeted region. Mutual information is a robust method to extract dependent information and insensitive to nonlinearities. When echoes are in good quality, the detection of target can be achieved by applying our method. Finally, we propose radar sensor network (RSN) and rake structure for poor signal quality, which will integrate the information in the fusion center. Results show that accurate detection can be achieved by this method. The performance of the algorithm was evaluated, based on real world data.
