Abstract :
This paper describes the configurations of semiconductor circuit breakers we developed for higher-voltage direct-current (HVDC) power feeding systems. Semiconductor breakers have some merits. The shutdown parts of the breakers are compact and can be controlled remotely. In addition, they do not need to be replaced after shutting down a short circuit. When semiconductor breaker shutdown overcurrent circuit, voltage in ICT equipment fluctuate and semiconductor breaker is applied overvoltage. Factors of voltage fluctuations and overvoltage are load current and inductance in power feeding system. Capacitors are required in semiconductor breakers to protect ICT equipment from voltage fluctuations and the breakers from overvoltage due to overcurrents. However, excess capacitors increase the size of semiconductor breakers. We therefore discuss dependence of voltage fluctuations and overvoltage on load current and inductance, and clarify semiconductor breaker circuit configurations under actual use conditions.
