Abstract :
The paper presents some theoretic aspects related to the full load compensation for applications with loads containing power electronics. Principles related to active filters´ design and operation are also approached. The analyzed experimental data were gathered from a test stand, the study being concerned with an active filter, used to get full load compensation. The load consisted in an uncontrolled three-phase rectifier with diodes, used to supply a d.c. motor through a chopper. Experimental data in the absence/presence of the active filter are analyzed and discussions are made relative to the obeying of present regulations (IEEE 519/1992). Conclusions are drawn with respect to active filter efficiency, considering identical RMS values of the fundamental harmonic and respectively the total active power absorbed by load. Significant aspects relative to the limitations of some theories dealing with full load compensation are revealed. The experiments come to certify the assumptions related to the existing theories.
