Abstract
Since the irruption of the wireless sensor networks as a cheap and low-power technology, the use of Structural Health Monitoring systems (SHM) have gained interest and it has become important task for researchers. In this paper, it is presented the design of a wireless and low-power consumption sensor network for SHM. Then the performance of the system in two different structures is validated: A rectangular steel plate and a five-story rectangular structure. It was selected an algorithm based on Autoregressive and Autoregressive with exogenous inputs (AR-ARX) to detect structural damages because it is not necessary synchronization between nodes and it can be used as decentralized algorithm. The experimental results show than this system is able to detect structural damages and different structural behaviors.
