Abstract :
A new variable-speed wind energy conversion system (WECS) with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), complementary half controlled rectifier (CHCR), and Scott transformer is proposed. CHCR as generator side converter shows several advantages such as high reliability and robustness because of impossibility of short circuit through legs, high power quality because of dead time elimination and fault tolerant behavior of the structure. PMSG current control by CHCR, and the modes of operation during normal operating conditions are explained. As power conditioner, two single phase full bridge inverters are employed to deliver extracted energy to grid through a Scott transformer. The vector control of the converter to control delivered active and reactive power to grid while using a Scott transformer is explained. Simulation results for the proposed topology are presented which demonstrates well performance of the system and confirm the theoretical analysis.
