Abstract :
In order to design a virtual topology for an underlying physical topology, the ingress traffic and virtual degree are considered as the governing constraints for a small optical WDM network. Different virtual topologies are designed using decreasing traffic sequence virtual topology design (DTS-VTD) algorithm and traffic independent virtual topology design (TI-VTD) algorithms, by varying the virtual degree. In the designed virtual topologies, the number of hops is controlled by the wavelength conflicting constraint. These topologies are compared on the basis of their traffic load satisfying capability. The wavelength dependant cost effectiveness of the various light paths is compared using the joint wavelength route selection algorithm in conjunction with the DTS-VTD algorithm and TI-VTD algorithm.
