Abstract :
Uniform, long and stable plasma channels for the light ion beam transport were formed by the guidance of CO2 laser. The typical required laser energy and applied electric field were 2 mj/cm−3·mbar and 10 V/cm-mbar, respectively. The ion beam transport experiments were performed. The energy loss in the channel was slightly larger than that estimated from the classical theory.
