Abstract :
We have examined the behavior of single shell DT gas filled spherical targets irradiated by a constant power heavy ion beam pulse. For targets in which the ion range is less than the shell thickness, our computational results suggest that the target can be divided into three regions: 1) the absorber (100–400 eV for the energies we have considered), 2) the cold pusher (a few eV), and 3) the DT gas fuel- We have examined the pusher collapse time, velocity, and maximum kinetic energy variations as functions of the various target parameters and ion beam energy. The results are expressed in analytic terras and verified by computer simulation.
