Abstract :
A simple one-dimensional simulation code for IREB injection into neutral gas at low pressure was developed, mainly in order to study collective ion acceleration. The results obtained using various sets of parameters are in good agreement with the theory of Alexander et al /1, 2/. No "deep-well" acceleration was found. The maximum ion energy is four times the electron energy at low pressures. An instability-type behaviour of the beam behind the beamfront was found.
