Abstract :
When impulsive noise (IN) arises in telecommunication channels, the received signals suffer from serious impairments. Among all the methods devised to detect IN, setting an amplitude threshold is the most recurred: The signal samples exceeding the threshold are spotted as being IN. However, IN comes mixed with the desired signal and that makes it sometimes difficult to distinguish one from each other. We present a procedure to increase capability of detecting IN by extending the receiver bandwidth beyond that of the communication channel. Alternatively IN detection can be enhanced by demodulating a transmission free channel nearby to that which is used for the communication.
