Abstract :
The paper highlights those features of the three level boost converter (TLBC), without flying capacitor, which a designer should take into account before deciding to use that technology. The transfer function ratio (TFR), component loss, small-signal models and start-up have been considered. A theoretical analysis has been confirmed by modeling. Experiments were made with two designs: a high-voltage converter with 2200 to 4000 VDC input voltage, 4300 VDC output voltage and about 90 kW output power, and a converter with 50 to 160 VDC input voltage, 400 VDC output voltage, and 3000 W output power.
