Abstract :
The fundamental frequency contour of different sentences of Bodo and Rabha language are studied and described in this paper. It is observed that like other languages, Bodo and Rabha languages also show a declining tangency of Fo contour from the beginning to the end of the declarative sentences. The range of variation between the maximum and minimum pitch value are measured for both the Bodo and the Rabha language for the general fall out. Besides the overall fall of the pitch frequency, it is observed that local falls and rises of the pitch contour across each word also accompany, as the speaker moves towards the end of the sentence. The local falls and rises across the words were found to be common for all the words and followed a particular pattern. The pitch contour at the beginning of the first syllable shows a rising trend toward the last syllable of the word, and then declined to the first syllable of the next word. In this study, the difference of the last pitch value of the first word and the first pitch value of the next word has been successfully used for word boundary detection.
