  • Abstract
    This paper shows the control strategy for the single-to-three-phase-indirect-matrix-converter (1-3IMC) commercially applied to the compressor motor drive of the air conditioner. This converter system is a kind of the direct power conversion system. Advantage of the 1-3MC is improvement of input current power factor and increment of system reliability caused by the small dc capacitance. It means that the film capacitor can be used instead of the electrolytic capacitor with comparatively short lifetime. However, the ripple in the motor drive current is increased and cause harmonics in the torque ripple and large audible noise. In this paper, new control strategy has been developed to suppress the harmonics of the input current, the audible noise and the mechanical vibration. It is also notified that the smaller ac inductor and the dc capacitor lead to the reduction in size and cost.
