Abstract :
The terminal voltage of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) increases with rotor speed. This means that the rotor speed of PMSM is constrained by the DC link voltage of inverter. In this paper, a two quadrant converter is equipped at the DC link of inverter in order to extend rotor speed range. The proposed buck-boost converter operates in three modes, i.e., buck, boost, and regeneration according to rotor speed. The fact that both energy efficiency and speed range of the proposed method are superior to those of a traditional flux weakening control (FW control) is confirmed by experiments.
