Abstract :
The low efficiency is the main problem for canned switched reluctance machines (SRM) at high speed. A simple and effective way to reduce the loss is to control the phase current waveform. Based on an ordinary SRM without cans in this paper, the controller is redesigned, which is characterized by having variable step voltage supply according to rotor position. Meanwhile, loss in power electronics is reduced by optimizing the windings. The canned machine is able to operate with much higher efficiency by the proposed methods.
