Abstract
Evaporation ducts near sea surface make the Microwave over-the-horizon radars work, however, the shadow zones in detection ranges make it possible for enemy aircrafts to break through the defences without being found. Generally, there are two ways, one is low flying under the shield of sea clutter; the other is through the shadow zone above the ducts. The effects of evaporation duct heights and antenna heights on shadow zone detection are simulated and analysised, based on which the optimum Antenna height on shadow zone detection are analysised. The simulation indicated that Antenna height can deeply effect the detection of Microwave over-the-horizion radar.
