Abstract :
Nowadays, more attention is paid to the development of high efficiency electrical machines for energy saving and the protection of natural resources. This paper presents a study on loss of permanent magnet(PM) motors that is focused on driving method of two surface-mounted PM motors: the first with brushless-DC(BLDC) motor and the other with PM synchronous motor(PMSM). This paper also deals with a computation method of copper losses, core losses and eddy current loss of rotor during the driving for a compressor of electric vehicle. These machines have the same stator core and magnet on the rotor volume and the same winding distribution on the stator with fractional slot windings. Finally, the presented method in this paper has been verified by finite element method(FEM).
