Abstract
This article presents a new algorithm for characterizing measured voltage sags in electrical distribution systems. The voltage sags are classified according to the type of network fault (single-phase fault, phase-to-phase fault or three-phase fault). This characterization is performed following the descriptors formulation and their respective application to voltage sags. The descriptors proposed in this work are based on the concept of electrical signal length, which allows estimation of differences between balanced and unbalanced voltage sags. The voltage sags are generated with ATPDraw. The algorithm is implemented and validated with Matlab. The results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient with respect to other algorithms. It is concluded that this new algorithm has an important application for characterizing three-phase voltage sags.
