Abstract
In this paper, four different weighted sum approaches for the PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) fitness function to design wideband medium gain antenna are investigated and compared. A linear 4 element microstrip antenna is chosen as benchmark structure to test the performance of the four PSO fitness functions. The results clearly show that all the tested fitness functions achieve a similar global best candidate structure. The performance of these candidate structures is better than the original one. The fitness function based on realized gain however converges slightly faster than the others.
