Abstract :
A broadband microfiber-based device with high birefringence is successfully realized by wrapping a microfiber (MF) on a 2 mm-diameter rod which is precoated with low-index polymer Teflon. The birefringence of the device is as high as 10-3 over a broad wavelength range. The results show that this kind of device presents great potential in sensing and communication applications.
