Abstract :
No longer constrained to backbone and long haul networks, fiber has moved from a rarity to a staple in broadband access networks worldwide. With ever increasing demand for bandwidth, parts of the world have seen rapid adoption of Fiber based access technologies. The rates at which these technologies are adopted vary widely across regions based on regulation, consumer demand economics and competitive environments. For Latin America, slow fixed broadband growth has resulted in equally slow adoption of FTTx. With government broadband agendas, increased consumer demand and service provider modernization efforts, Latin America is becoming an emerging market for FTTx technology.
