Abstract
Exploring the ocean is an important activity for human being to understand our earth. A powered, high-bandwidth cabled facility linking the seafloor observatory instrumentation to shore and to the public in real time provides many advantages. The Seafloor Observatory Network (SONet) affords that platform for scientists to inquiry and analyses observed data, for the government to monitor the changing environment, and for the public to have an intuitive understanding of the ocean. SONet has to integrate data acquisition, data storage, data management and data display of tons of observatory instruments, all of which provide different kind of data format. A service-oriented architecture (SOA) based system is designed for the SONet to tackle these problems.
