Abstract :
This paper introduces two new simulation developments called Electro-Magnetic Transient (EMT) Parallel Processing and Hybrid Simulation. Parallel Processing allows the EMT simulation to be broken up into several processes on local or remote computers and run them in parallel while communicating each other. Hybrid Simulation creates a dynamic interface between industry leading EMT and Transient Stability Analysis (TSA) programs, allowing both types of programs to be run in the same dynamic simulation. These techniques have been commercially implemented in two popular simulation programs (PSS/E and PSCAD) using a tool called E-TRAN Plus. The tools developed also address security and confidentiality concerns, and include case control/operator interfaces which allow the entire Hybrid and/or parallel simulations to be started, monitored and controlled from one graphical interface. The proposed Atlantic Wind Connection with a Multi-Terminal VSC/HVDC Offshore converters is used to demonstrate these two features in the simulation environment.
