  • Abstract
    Wind energy has still a place, as it can generate power in the winter, when less sun is available and when the wind speed is higher. This paper proposes a solution for low cost blades from a polyethylene pipe (PE) and a low cost electric bike generator, which is possible to realize by a do it yourself (DIY) person. It is intended as low wind speed wind turbine (LWWT). The design is rather optimized towards a low cost/swept area, rather than the cost/nominal power. It uses a variant on the furling tail principle on a HAWT, to avoid springs or an active yaw control.
