Abstract :
Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are currently attracting a lot of attention due to their ability to provide cost-efficient broadband wireless connectivity. In our previous work, we evaluated WMN-GA system that is based on Genetic Algorithms (GAs) to find an optimal location assignment for mesh routers. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of two different network topologies by simulations considering packet delivery ratio (PDR), throughput and delay metrics. For simulations, we used ns-3 simulator and Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP). We evaluate the performance of the optimized network component by sending multiple constant bit rate (CBR) flows in the network. The simulation results show that when the number of generations is 5, the mesh routers are scattered in the grid area and the communication is done by multiple routes. But, when the number of generations is 200, the mesh routers are located near each other, the connectivity is maximized and less routes are used for communication. Also, there is small improvement of the throughput.
