Abstract
This paper investigates the relationship between the transmission power, antenna height and the coverage area in both broadcasting and cellular systems, which is crucial in the telecom and broadcasting convergence. A new metric called scaling factor is defined as the ratio between the broadcasting coverage and cellular coverage, indicating the coverage characterization of both two systems under the same power constraint. The numerical result shows that the scaling factor is highly related with the antenna height and transmission power. First, as the antenna height increases, the scaling factor increases. Second, the scaling factor decreases as the transmission power increases. Furthermore, once the transmission power exceeds a certain range, the scaling factor is robust to the transmission power.
