Abstract
Thyristor controlled-series capacitor is the first and foremost FACTS device introduced which can control the line impedance by employing thyristor controlled capacitor in series with the transmission line. It is a series compensator designed to increase the power transfer limit, control the power flow or improve the stability of the power system. TCSC can provide dynamic response by quickly changing the equivalent reactance (capacitive) to desired level of compensation as soon as fault occurred, hence power oscillations are damped. In this paper a detailed analysis of TCSC is presented by modelling the transmission line with TCSC and its performance is evaluated.
