Abstract
For mobile reception of Satellite Digital Audio Radio Services (SDARS) in North America an invisible antenna is presented which is embedded in the roof of a car. Although the antenna is completely lowered in a metal cavity and covered by a thick dielectric part of the roof so that the surface profile of the car is not changed, the antenna shows a high efficiency and a large bandwidth in comparison to conventional SDARS receiving antennas as for example patch antennas. The antenna offers a small mounting volume and shows a radiation pattern which is tailored to the reception of SDARS signals transmitted via highly-elliptical-orbit satellites, geostationary earth orbit satellites and terrestrial repeaters. Simulation results, measurement results and field measurements show the high performance of this antenna.
