Abstract :
The impact of cross-polarization discrimination (XPD) of dual-polarized dipole antenna at the mobile station (MS) on the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) link level throughput performance is analyzed numerically and experimentally. For the measurement purpose, we use anechoic chamber based MIMO Over-The-Air (OTA) test methodology. For theoretical study, the MIMO link level throughput performance of dual-polarized dipole antenna array is derived from ergodic channel capacity for 2×2 MIMO system. We show that the channel capacity and associated link level throughput performance of MS are enhanced as the Ricean K-factor of the radio channel increases. We also show that the correlation properties of dual-polarized dipole antenna array well explain the channel capacity enhancement in the Ricean channel.
