Abstract
Tuned circuits (variable reactances) have been used between the antenna and the transmitter or receiver since the early days of wireless communications. Indeed one of the pioneers, Oliver Lodge, patented several tuned circuits for maximizing the signal transfer between the antenna and the transmitter/receiver as early as 1898. Some examples are shown in Error! Reference source not found. [1, 2]. Lodge´s patent was subsequently acquired by the Marconi Company, who went on to develop and patent further tuned solutions that also incorporated transformers and variable capacitors.
