Abstract :
An approach to simulation of electromagnetic scattering from electrically large bodies coated with metamaterial absorbers is described which uses impedance boundary conditions to model the coating. The studied absorbers are lossy dielectric metal-backed layers with capacitively-loaded metal strip inclusions. The value of the surface impedance is extracted from numerical or experimental reflection data for a broadside illumination of a planar piece of the coating, and the impedance formulation is then used in the framework of the physical theory of diffraction to simulate the scattered fields.
