Abstract
Results are presented of an evaluation of relative macrocellular and in-building wireless signal coverage performance at 700 and 2500 MHz, based on physically-based propagation prediction data and measurements of in-building propagation path loss. Macrocellular area coverage at 700 MHz was found to be 2-3 times larger than that at 2500 MHz. The mean in-building path loss advantage of 700 MHz over 2500 MHz was found to be at best marginally (1 dB) higher than the outdoor advantage at street level. These results indicate that the lower free-space and material penetration losses at 700 MHz are counteracted, to varying but significant degree, by an increased probability of Fresnel zone blockage.
