Abstract
An improved fully closed loop control scheme was proposed for artificial pancreas, which designs the control action just based on the input and output data. Because the proposed algorithm is a standard proportional control amended by using both predicted future glucose level and historical active insulin stacking, it is named Predictive-Retrospective Proportional Controller (PRPC). In addition, some clinical rules are given for the controller parameter adjustment and the feasibility of closed-loop application has been investigated. The simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of PRPC in hypoglycemia prevention and postprandial hyperglycemia reduction. The simplicity of the algorithm will benefit physicians with less professional control knowledge.
