Abstract
A novel bio sensor is presented in this paper including the results from a fabricated micro-fluidic chip that includes the sensor. The Differential Electric Field Effect Transistor (DeFET) is a novel CMOS electric field sensor that we developed. The DeFET was fabricated based on a standard 0.18-μm Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) CMOS technology. The DeFET sensor can sense and characterize biocells with high accuracy and in real time. In an array form, the DeFET is integrated to form a lab-on-a-chip which can deal with the biological systems at the cell level and it can extract real time information about the biological cells behaviors using direct measurements. The impact of different environmental factors on the DeFET´s response and performance is presented and discussed in this paper. Also, applications of the DeFET on the biomedical and lab-on-a-chip are presented and discussed.
