Abstract :
With the rapid development of modern avionics system, traditional MIL-STD-1553 bus cannot meet the requirements of high-speed communication. In this paper, a method of improving the transmission rate of the avionics bus is purposed by implementing a Discrete Multitone (DMT) interface over existing MIL-STD-1553 bus. Physical layer and analog front end (AFE) are designed and analyzed in detail. This solution has been evaluated on FPGA platform and is demonstrated to be effective. The maximum data rate can achieve 100Mbit/s. It shows a tremendous performance improvement, as well as significant cost savings by keeping using legacy devices and MILSTD-1553 cables.
