Abstract :
The core intention of this paper is to observe the impact of effective configuration management (CM) usage in software development firms in Sri Lanka. Since there is large number of software development companies worldwide, the competition is high. In order to survive in the industry a company must have an effective CM process. Same rule can be applied for the Sri Lankan companies as well. Irrespective of the size of the company, they are required to perform CM activities. Hence CM has become a major requirement for software companies. This research paper points out the current usage of the CM in Sri Lankan software development companies. This analyse the importance of CM, benefits and outcomes the Sri Lankan companies can gain. Finally it describes tools used in CM, best practices, special techniques and the drawbacks.
