Abstract
The development of many technologies has provided a fast growth in the wind power. In this context, the variable speed wind turbines are preferred because more power is extracted from the wind. The synchronous machines has been gained attention because eliminates the gearbox, source of many mechanical problems. Moreover, the use of full converters improves the performance of the system because the grid disturbances are not transmitted to the machine. In this context, this work compares the three main topologies of wind turbines using synchronous generators. The performance of these models will be compared when voltage sags occur and will be discussed the strengths and weaknesses of each technology.
