Abstract :
This paper proposes a new configuration of a unified power quality conditioner based on modular multilevel converter (MMC-UPQC), which applies to medium voltage level with increasing the number of sub-modules. In this paper, the main circuit of MMC-UPQC and the operating principle of MMC sub-module are described in detail. The classical synchronous-reference-frame (SRF)-based detection and control algorithms are adopted in this paper. PSCAD/EMTDC simulation results and experimental works are discussed to support the effectiveness of the proposed MMC-UPQC and the multifunctional compensation characteristics of MMC-UPQC.
