Abstract :
The volume comparator type VC1005 is produced by Mettler-Toledo GmbH, Switzerland; this electronic apparatus provide automatic determination of volume and density of solid bodies, using comparative weighing in liquid. The uncertainty of the liquid density affects the accuracy of the measurement in proportion to the volume difference between the weights. The manufacturer specifies two ways of calibrating the liquid density using the software. These ways require manually measurements in air and in liquid with empty / loaded suspension, performed before starting automatic comparisons. In this paper we present another method for measuring the density of the liquid with the volume comparator VC1005. This new method is automatic and is carried out together with measurements performed for the rest of pieces.
