Abstract :
Technical and economic success of a constructive solution of asynchronous motor for excavator is determined by starting and running characteristics, energy consumption in use, overall dimensions, response time, noise level and a final and equally significant aspect, its cost. This paper is based on the use of advanced numerical methods and related software to determine optimal values of electromagnetic stresses and constructive dimensions for high power motors with squirrel cage used in surface mining excavators. The optimal structural solution has been established by considering a very low starting current stood by the motor and on the basis of the simulations that brought the necessary information. Overall restrictive conditions imposed by the area necessary for mounting the motor, have significant weight in determining the constructive solution. Compared with its existing excavator motor, the optimized machine starting current is Ip= 2,85*IN (17,2% lower than the limit value imposed by customer) and the total cost (manufacturing and mining) decreased by 3,87%.
