Abstract
This paper analyzes the displacements produced in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines(PMSMs). The most important cause for vibration and noise in electrical machines is the radial component of the electromagnetic force produced in the machine. The first aim of this paper is to present the Maxwell Stress Tensor Method as an approach for calculating this radial component of the electromagnetic force. After that, an analytical method for predicting the radial displacements in electrical machines is presented. The paper continues with a 2D Finite Element Analysis example in order to validate the analytical method.
